about

Hi, this site chronicles my journey into the fascinating world of guitar effects pedal building. What started as a simple favor for my guitarist friend Stuart has evolved into an obsession with tone, circuits, and the magic that happens when you stomp on a little metal box.

The Story Behind Stu-Ped

The name says it all – I'm building effects pedals for Stu, and sometimes the process makes me feel pretty stupid. Stuart needed some individual sounds for his rig, and being the helpful friend I am, I thought "How hard could it be?" Famous last words?

What began as a weekend project has turned into a deep dive into electronics, circuit design, and the art of chasing that perfect tone.

What You'll Find Here

This site is your front-row seat to my pedal-building adventures, including:

  • Build Logs: Step-by-step documentation of pedal projects, complete with photos, schematics, and assessments of what worked (and what didn't)
  • Circuit Analysis: Breaking down how different effects work, from simple boosters to complex modulation circuits
  • Component Reviews: Real-world testing of parts, tools, and materials
  • Troubleshooting Tales: Because every builder needs to know they're not alone when things go wrong
  • Sound Samples: Audio clips of the pedals in action, so you can hear the results

Why Follow Along?

Whether you're a seasoned builder, a curious guitarist, or someone who just enjoys watching people learn through trial and error, there's something here for you. I'm not claiming to be an expert – I'm just a guy with a soldering iron, multimeter and oscilloscope, and an unhealthy obsession with getting Stuart the perfect tone.

Join the Journey

Building effects pedals is part science, part art, and part stubborn determination. It's about understanding how a few components can transform a guitar signal into something completely new. It's about the satisfaction of creating something with your own hands that makes music sound better.

So grab a cup of coffee, fire up your soldering iron (safely!), and let's see what kind of sonic magic we can create together. Stuart's pedalboard isn't going to populate itself!

Happy building
